organic buttresses

When young trees take root and grow on nursery logs or stumps, they are often left with flying- buttress like roots--the trees supported on a complex set of organic archways where the nursery log has decayed away. Yellow Birch and Eastern White Cedar are often seen together, having grown from the same stump, as here. -- Riverwood -- North Kawartha
